Editorial Review
The historic Barrack Square Jetty, just minutes walk from the heart of the city, not only has great views across the river and back to the city skyline, it's also home to a handful of great restaurants. One such place is Shun Fung on the River, located on the upper deck of the jetty. In my opinion, Chinese cuisine can often become quite monotonous, so finding a restaurant that offers something a little special is always exciting.
In addition to spectacular views and superb service, Shun Fung also offers plenty to look at within the restaurant with large display tanks full of fresh lobster, snow crabs, imported fish and other crustaceans. It's not something I can stare at for too long before my conscience gets the better of me, but when the lobster cooked in spiced salt and fresh chilli is delivered to your table, the freshness of the dish makes it so worthwhile. Of course, anything that comes from the tanks is charged at market price, but for the size and quality you receive, I still think Shun Fung is fairly priced when it comes to live seafood. If this style of dining is a little too confronting for you (and it will be if you decide to name the crabs before you eat them), then fear not; Shun Fung has a very extensive menu that includes something for everyone. Chef's recommendations include dishes as conservative or adventurous as you like, ranging from Sichuan spicy chicken fillet to jellyfish with chilled pork slice. For all you scaredy cats, there are also the usual Chinese dishes such as sweet and sour pork, black pepper steak and Cantonese roasted duck. And they do a great yum cha on weekends with arguably the best views in Perth!
